I’m only saying this once: returning to Gilead was never supposed to feel like comfort television… and yet here I am, seated every week, emotionally stressed, slightly angry, and hitting "next episode" like I’m being paid to do it.
The Testaments had the impossible task of stepping out from under the giant shadow of The Handmaid’s Tale, and somehow it didn’t walk in nervously — it walked in, sat down, and said, "I belong here too." The series continues the world years later through a younger generation, focusing on Agnes and Daisy as they begin questioning the reality they’ve been taught to accept. The thing I’m enjoying most so far is that it doesn't try to recreate June's story. That would've been the easy route. Instead, it shifts perspectives and shows Gilead through younger eyes — girls who grew up inside this system and don't initially know anything different. It makes everything somehow even more unsettling because indoctrination looks very different when it's all you've ever known. And can we please discuss the performances? Ann Dowd continues proving that Aunt Lydia may be one of television's most fascinating characters. One minute I’m side-eyeing her, the next I’m questioning everything I thought I knew. Then you've got Chase Infiniti and Lucy Halliday carrying so much emotional weight that you end up invested before you even realize it.
Visually, the show still has that signature Handmaid’s Tale energy: beautiful shots wrapped around deeply uncomfortable realities. You almost forget you're admiring the cinematography because somebody says something disturbing five seconds later. I’ve also noticed I’m enjoying the slower burn. Some viewers online have said they appreciate the more measured pacing and character-building, while others are already nervously asking whether the show will overextend itself.
Mila Rating (so far): ★★★★½☆ (4.5/5)
Final verdict: The Testaments doesn’t feel like a spin-off trying to borrow greatness. It feels like a new generation stepping into a dangerous world and saying, "our story matters too." I came in curious... I’m staying because now I need answers, and Disney+ knows exactly what it’s doing with these weekly episodes.
